The driver side mirror on my '02 has separated between the glass and the backing, dealership wants about $400 for a new mirror. I have found them online for much less (except there don't seem to be any aftermarket mirrors with the monochromatic dimming glass option) but am wondering just how difficult it is to replace.

The mirrors come with the full housing and wiring and look to be a plug and play replacement but it also looks like I may have to disassemble the door to do it. I've lived with it for a while now but am getting ready to drive back across country (military transfer) next month and my wife refuses to drive the truck until I fix the mirror.

Greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks, Brett

RE: Side mirror replacement

I think there have been threads dealing with this topic in the past. If you can't find it, I'll look in a while for it.

RE: Side mirror replacement

Becuase of the site merges earlier today, I have to rebuild the search index, it should take about 10 minutes. Wait about that long and do a search for mirrors.

I just replace the mirrors on my 99 with some I bought off of ebay. ($50 compared to the $300 GM wanted). On mine, there is a small triangle shaped trim piece in the front corner of the door and that was the only thing I had to remove. Behind that piece are the attaching bolts for the mirror. I'm not sure if the 02's are the same or if you have to remove the whole door panel. Mine plugged in to the existing harness with no problems (except the new ones didn't come with the dimming option), but the power adjust works as well as the heaters.

If you just need the glass reglued go to a auto glass place, they can get you new glass mirrors real cheap.

yes, if it's just glass, you can get glass for nothing, it's a very cheap commodity. However, you could have had some idiot take your mirror off and damage the housing, etc. Then you need to replace, obviously.
