Is there a way to turn off the automatic light sensor in the front of the dash? I have a '99 Z71 LS. Do you know if the newer models '02-'06 light switches with the on/off toggle are compatible with the previous models?
There should be a way. As far back as the early 80's there have been automatic light sensors made by GM ... they weren't as good as they are now, but even back then they could be toggled on/off.

Anyone know about the 99?
does the 99 not turn off by clicking the dome override 4 times like the 200 does
Yeah, that's how my 2002 works. I click 4 times and the lights go on/off.
Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try and let you know.
Here's a link to your owners manual in case you don't have it:

Look on 2-51, it talks about the "Automatic headlamp system"

I didn't see anything, but they have a way to turn off the chime, so maybe they have a way to turn off the lights???
Lamps On Reminder
A reminder chime will sound when your headlamps or
parking lamps are manually turned on and your ignition
is in OFF, LOCK or ACCESSORY. To disable the
chime, rotate the thumbwheel all the way down. In the
automatic mode, the headlamps turn off once the
ignition key is in OFF.Lamps On Reminder

Lots of button pressing with no luck...Well I guess the technology in the first year of that generation Silvy got screwed with the option to turn the auto-lights on/off. I am going to swap out the toggle switch from my buddies avalanche to see if that will work if not I will live with it. I will post the results.
That might do it, would be curious to see what you find out.
any particular reason you wouldnt want that option??

i find its rather convenient
I leave mine turned on all the time. Only sometimes does it come into play, like parking in a garage, the lights will come on or going to a drive-in place like Sonic and I have to turn the lights off so I don't blind the guy across from me.
I would probably leave the toggle in the "auto" position 98% of the time also. There are a few instances where I would have liked to turn only the parking lights on...drive-in movie theater (1-2 times a year) sitting in really bad traffic at night (once a year). With my HID's I sometimes attract a lot of unwanted attention, so I would probably use it in some instances I can't think of now, and also to just have the option.
well i dont know if yours work the same but when i use my light swith and turn it all the way on and then back off i can then turn only my park lights on
?? say that again?

1) Start with lights off.
2) Turn headlights on.
3) Turn headlights all the way off.
4) Now you can only turn your parking lights on?

Is that what you're saying?
ok if my auto lights are on and i pull into a garage and the lights come on all i have to do is use my light swith and turn the headlights on then turn them back off then just turn it one click to just park lights and that is all that is on does that make sense
I thought I responded to that, maybe it was somewhere else. Meaning, the lights don't come back on automatically?
Is it possable to change out the jumpseat?

I would kill for an armrest/storage compartment. I have an 03 single cab and have located a "ls" model jumpseat that folds down. It looks like a simple swap. Just remove the 2 seats and then the jumpseat. Is it that simple???
Newbie here. Just picked up a 2000 regular cab Silverado. Is the jump seat you are referring to the middle seat. I wish it had a fold down armrest too.
