My dilemma; we have a 6" lift with all new parts on the front, new shocks. At speeds of 50+ it feels like the truck travels left and right too easy. There is no play in the wheel or pulling at all. We tried to look to find a steering stabilizer and can't find one that fits. The alignment shop put the truck on the machine and swears it's correct. The tires are all aired up equally. Any ideas what to do? Thanks in advance.

These trucks have an EVO system that gives power steering pressure boost at low speeds. When the sensor goes out, it has wird effects on the steering system. There are some videos about this on you tube.
Yup, that's the spot to start...if its close enough and available to you, you could just pull the belt, and test for issue, with belt off....just remember water pump and alt are also driven by belt...so think it through first.

Here is a video for you.
Face-palm...ktw I was just thinking about the hydraulic pump (with internal valving) you said EVO loud and clear and I still missed it ;-) baronski ktw has it covered...these are pretty simple to revert back to ragular valved PS boxes also, if you get to that point...a 96 pump and lines should do the trick...or there is this

I had this issue with my 97 maybe 15 years ago. I had my.local Chevy dealer replace the sensor for me, and I haven't had an issue sense. It is not a hard fix, and you can unplug the sensor to see if that fixes the issue temporally.

So if I unplug it at the pump I should notice whether the evo delete will fix the issue?
Yeah, but you don't have to delete it to fix it as ktw said, I was just giving you another option... If you wanted to go that rout...options are good...when you have them:D and if its in "full pressure mode" you may not notice any difference.

You can simply replace the pump with one for an older truck. Another GMT 400 from 95 back. Or there is a kit that you can get, that replaced the EVO valve ont the PS pump with a valve that wont let the pump go into boost mode.

So what you are saying is I can’t test it by simply unplugging the evo part. I have to take the belt off long enough to test it.

Pulling the belt will put you in emergency manual steering. It takes quite a bit of effort to steer in manual but the power steering will be totally out of the equation.

As Kenny says disconnect the EVO connector at the steering column to test for flakey EVO. This will prevent the pump from going into high boost mode but still have power steering. Find the location of the connector via Google.

Ok I am going to try that. I guess I am just wondering if I disconnect the plug, do I need to go ahead and buy the EVO bypass or just leave it unplugged? Or replace the pump with a 1996 model without EVO. I want to get rid of the over-assist at high speeds.
