I recently bought a 2001 z71 silverado extendcab. first one and lovin it compared to dodge. the only complaint i have is that dang ding that goes off when you open your door and the keys r still in the ignition. i went through the fuse box and found the one i can remove to eliminate that noise. but the engine will not run after the fuse is out. now since i have installed a Sony CD player the dang ding stays on till i open the doors after shutting the truck off. I'm sure I'm gonna spend some money trying to eliminate it. in my old dodge it was a relay switch that i just pulled out and it didn't bother a thing. does anyone know of this problem and if so how did u take care of it. oh it has a half butt factory security system on it.
If I'm not mistakin I think there is an aftermarket harness that goes in there from stereo shop that can correct that problem. Those guys know best on the tricks to get around that. Got any buddies at the local stereo joint?
I do. however i did use a harness from a local walmart to piggy back it strait into the harness comin out of the trucks dash. is that what you ment or did you mean a spacific one for the door chime?
There is a specific harness for this application but your problem is you don't want door chimes to work. If I'm correct so far I would let the stereo boys take a stab at it so's not to mess stuff up much more. Cuz there is some cross circuitry.
1st - you used a relocation harness correct? or a t - harness with a module in it?
2nd - if im not mistaken, Sony Xplod recievers make 3 double dings when u shut the car off, now in your case whats probably happening is that the power isnt cutting because the radio and instrument gauge lights stay on till u open the driver/passenger door, which would mean the radio should saty on, but if you used the relocation harness the ignition wire to trigger the deck goes through a relay which imo is the stupidest thing in the world thats most likely ur problem,if so, just run some 16 gauge wire frim an ignition wire to the back of the deck, this way if u got an amp and sub/s u wont kill ur battery cus itll go off when u turn the key.
