So, This thought hit me one day out of no where. I really want to get a Train Horn for the truck, BUT i dont want something that is going to sound weak. Also, i dont want to spend a ton of money on it either. I've checked a few web sites ex. HornBlasters.com. But maybe someone can help me out and point me in the right direction for something good sounding and reasonably priced...... Any help is appreciated

HornBlasters is a very good site to go with. There are some Cheap horns out there that don't last long Beware...Get a good set spend a little more...

X2. I got about a $300 dollar kit and yet it works very well the horns are to high pitched. I'm still looking for a deeper toned set of horns that aren't super big money.

I know for sure you can go to Hornblasters and take a look at what horns they have. They are also going to have audio samples that you listen to, that way you know exactly what you are going to get. Also, you can go to Youtube and there are some videos there, and usually the name of the horn used is posted in description.

Well, I was thinking about getting a low profile tool box for the compressor, and fastening the tool box to the bed of the truck. Then drilling through the tool box and truck bed to run the lines to the actual horns.

As far as the horn placement goes, i was thinking somewhere closer to the front. Maybe somewhere around the oil pan, front end differential. But that is going to depend on how long the air lines are when i get the unit.

The only thing that i am not 100 % sure about is running the control switch into the cab. I just really dont want to drill through the cab of the truck. But if i do end of drilling, i will take it to my custom shop and let those guys do it so it gets patches correctly. I dont trust myself that much.:happy:

Thats what I did!! Its a really good idea because your tank and compressor is locked up and also out of the weather. I did that then mounted my horns right under the box and that made everything really easy to hook up.

Wiring the switch up in the truck isn't to hard! There should be a grommet in your firewall to run wires through. I also ran a separate switch for the compressor that way if my tank got a leak and the compressor had to keep running it wouldn't always be on and run my battery down.

I'll check out horn blasters! I'd really like to get my whole setup back going again.

how did you find the horns mounted under the tool box? rattle the crap out of everything in the box and bed? I always figured you'd want the horns somewhat facing forward to direct the sound, or is it just so loud it don't matter which way they're pointing the A hole infront of you gets the message?

I've been tinkering with this idea as well. But I don't think I want something like super rediculously loud, I'm thinking along the lines of Semi truck loud, or just alot louder and ALLLLLLOT deeper then the stock horn the NNBS's come with. Any ideas on those?

I would say tool box is a good idea, now my buddy's Durango took out his spare tire and put the horns there, I couldnt see them neither could the cops unless you crawled under the truck. But he did say he bought his off of ebay for around 500

Worked out pretty well actually! Made so much easier to mount and dismount. They actually didn't rattle anything at all. 4 bolts in the bottom of tool box and they were very sturdy. Yes I probably would've liked to have the sound facing forwards but to be honest it was so loud and when I used them it didn't really matter where the noise was coming from.

Actually have a story about that. Me and my buddy pull into mcdonalds one night and while at the drive through my buddy keeps honking the trainhorn. Well since the horns were behind me the lady working the drivethrough thought the car behind me was hinking and she got really pissed and was yelling at her! I'm sure that was a pleasent conversation with those two ladies after I pulled away! :lol:

A good spot is under the truck mounted to the frame rail. Pointed down..For those in the Northern areas with snow and salt becarefull.. The horns do not like the wet white stuff... I mounted my Air tank to the other side of my front skid plate. lots of room under there for a 2 gal tank

I never thought about facing down. Hmmmmm. does that help the sound? I think thats a pretty good idear as paul sr. would say. :lol:

I have Klienn train horns. I mounted the horns facing down in front of the radiator. The compressor is mounted to the frame under the truck. That works fine here in Arizona..not sure about you guys where it snows.

I LOVE them. The horns alone are going for $250.00 on the net. They are not cheap but I have had them for 3 years and not one problem. The horns still look like new. Some things you can get away going the less expensive route....some things you cant.

If you plan on keeping your truck for several years you might as well get train horns to last IMHO.

Speaking from a Law Enforcement stand point. There is nothing that says that you cant have these, Now you might get something like disorderly conduct, or breach of peace. But they are going to have to know where they are coming from before they are going to start handing out paper.

ntbush83.... I appreciate the advise about the cab hook up, I will definitely keep that in mind.

I might have to take a look at Kleinn Horns, I am really wanting something that will last and when i get rid of my truck (not anytime soon) i can take them off and re-attach the whole set up again.

Alright, Now im convinced that my ideas with work.... Now time the work on the Wife !!!
