OEM tire for this truck was General LT225/75R/17. Got 45k miles on first set, and just over 50k on second set. When I went to purchase a new set, learned that OEM tire no longer available. Also learned that the LT225/75R/17 not made by most major tire makers. Only Firestone offering this size, but the Firestone tire was not rated favorably in all the reviews I could find. General Tire recommended that I use LT235/80R/17 as an alternative size. This size tire has about a 5% larger diameter than the OEM size tire, meaning that my speedometer would read about 5% less than my actual speed. Does this mean that my odometer would measure 5% fewer miles? (e.g., for each mile recorded on the odometer, would I have actually traveled 1.05 miles?) What would be the impact on the DIC info on mpg, range, and gallons used, if any? Will appreciate any feedback on this issue. Thanks.

I just went to tirerack and they had General Grabber AW LT225/75 R17. They are $169 each.

The General Grabber AW is not the same tire as the OEM General, the Grabber TR. Reviews on the AW indicated that the mileage being run (25K or there about)on them was only about half of the mileage (over 50K each set) I was getting on the TR's. This poorer performance plus the fact this tire also is being discontinued, made me disinterested in this tire. Thanks for the feedback.

If you switch tire size, make sure to tell the ECU what the new tire height is. This is easily accomplished with a handheld device like a Hypertech, Diablo, etc.

The best investment you could make since your OEM tire size is no longer available is a handheld tuner like stchman said. I have the banks six gun with banks IQ dashboard but is a terrible product and only works half the time. My father has the PPE on his 08 2500 LMM duramax and loves it. He just plugs into the OBDII plug hits a button and it loads a tune unplugs and goes. Also I owned a set of firestone highway tires on my 02 1500 and they were the loudest tires on road noise I have ever owned. I would take it to the dealership and tell them to do it for free and don't walk out until they do!!! They decided on that tire size and they should take some accountability that there is no longer a manufacturer that doesn't make that size. Offer to buy the tires there to give them business. My dad just priced new tires for his 07 NNBS and the dealership was actually getting him the best deal for exact same tires that came on his truck. The owners exact words were (we only deal with him), dealerships just don't sell a lot of tires so they have to be competitive to get that sale.

Good luck with that...that size is still available, just not as common.
