Im not a fan yet i own a color keyed Fitted fiberglass one because they are AWSOME when the weather is crummy or you have loose stuff that doesnt fit in the truck! Mine is only on a couple of months out the year (hunting season, Spring fishing) otherwise it is off since a sled doesnt fit in the bed nor a 4wheeler.
i agree with murdog94, i see alot of themaround town and they never seem to look right on the trucks, they make some nice caps but i rarely see them, maybe 2 or 3 at truck shows painted and molded to the truck
My dad had a Topper on his GMC & it held up well. It didn't look as good as the one on yours because they didn't use to fit them as well, but they seem to be very well built & long lasting.
20 years ago I would have never had one. I used to make fun of pick ups with them. Now, their not so bad. I tend to appreciate function over style more these days. They do make some really nice bed caps now that seem to better flow with the lines of the trucks they are built for. I might even get a nice color matched one the more I think about it.
I had one on my 89 K1500 a slightly raised over the roof model..I slept in the back of that truck alot over the years...Was great except when I had to haul a bike or fridge.....
Look to the Left..... No Left not right.. LOL... I will post more pics soon....

I think it depends on what you use your truck for and where you live. When I grew up in the northwest, I always had them. Of course it rained a lot of there and on more than one occasion I needed to keep everything dry, including me when I had to sleep in the back. Moving down here I've not had one just a truck box.
Well I absolutely love mine. I know they don't win popularity contests around here, and I don't think I'd ever run for ROTM because of that, but for me it's all about function. I originally got it to keep my daughter's wheelchair out of the nasty southern Louisiana weather we tend to get, but it also is great for all my hobbies. I go on road trips several times a year, and it usually involves bringing along the sporting goods section with me. It's nice to not have to worry about your stuff getting wet or stolen when you are away from your vehicle. It also makes it a lot better for loading up the canoes, which I try to do as much as possible.
I've got a Century Royal if you want to know. It came color-matched and they did an excellent job with it. I don't think I'd own another truck without one.

I had one on my ECLB Sierra that was raised top and color matched. I'll copy what everyone else said - great for storage and security, not so great for beauty contests. I do like some of the contoured ones, designed for the truck, though. I like troutbug's set up.

Mine was on during crappy weather, and off during nice weather - which is about 3 1/2 months around here...

Good luck,

They will grow on you though. When I first got mine, I hadn't seen many NNBS trucks with a shell, and it was a little bit of a shock to see it. But over time it just looks normal to me now. Sometimes I look back at pics of my truck before, and think "Damn, that looks weird!"
i've really never thought about getting one because i've usually got a over the rail tool box and one wouldn't fit. we've got like 4 straight days of rain here in IL lately and had to move my brother so i thought waht the heck i'd borrow one for the weather protection. after having it on there all day i think i like it. going to try and find one the same style but black. i used c clamps today to hold it down so i think if i get one i'll set it up to be easily taken off and stored.......
I think if you get a nice one like troutbugs that matches color and body lines they look great.
Hey, thanks STB!
Your welcome troutbug.
I have one for my truck. I would have really preferred if my stepdad would have bought a tonneau cover instead, since he never really had a need for either. I like it in the winter, so the box doesn't get all full of snow and I can still use it, but I hate the look of it. I take it off for the summers, and it sits around and gets in my way at home. I have it in the back yard right now, and have decided to sell it since I will be selling the truck this year, and the canopy is probably worth more separate from the truck than it increases the truck's value.
