im trying to find out the true towing capacity of my truck. ive looked it up and found different number on the different sites ive searched. does anyone know. i have 2006 2500HD 4x4 long bed with a 8.1 liter. it has the stock hitch, but i dont know what class.

For a 2006"......Ext. Cab.....2500 3/4 Ton......4WD.....Long Bed with a 8.1 Liter is the Following,
With....3.73 Gears
Max Trailer Rating..........................13,400lbs
Gross Combined Weight Rating......20,000lbs

With....4.10 Gears,
Max Trailer Rating.........................15,400 lbs
Gross Combined Weight Rating.....22,000 lbs

The above information is the 2007" Silverado Owners Manual.......yes its One year later, but it should be the same for a 2006" all items being equal......Hope this helps....you out.

That chassis/engine/gear combo will allow you to tow virtually any horse trailer, car trailer, camper, etc provided you have the appropriate hitch to go along with it. That really is a beast of a tow rig!!
