Hey everyone. My 05 silverado needed a transfer case due to clutches being toast. So I thought I found one but it turns out that it's and older model of the 246 so the encoder motor wiring is different and you can just swap motors due to the different style shift cam. Does anyone know if you can re wire the older case to work or is it possible to just get an updated shift cam and put in it? .

when the wiring/connectors are not the same then it will not work with the computer system.

when you purchase this type stuff you need the same model year to be safe. normally the scrap yards know this stuff...so as to avoid this type of issue.. another item would be the 4L60 transmission a very common type of error , they are all the same its a 4L60 ...

I would have the 2005 transfer case repaired. change that trac II fluid every 40K miles and never use 4wd of any selection on dry solid pavement . ROTATE TIRES EVERY 15k MILES ... ALL THE SAME WEAR ALSO..

Ya I learned all this the hard way and I think a rebuild would cost more than a reman. . Correct me if I'm wrong anyone. Thanks
cost on these vary as on re-build or new. depends what discount you can get ... new could be cheaper it is not all that fixed in pricing.

I would guess a tranny shop re-build install and a warranty to be $1500....but this is a variable..
