I only have about 300 miles left before I hit the 3K mile mark to get an oil change, but on my odometer read-out, it says my oil life is at 70%. Should I go ahead and get it changed at 3K miles, or wait for that meter to run down? I don't want to risk running it too long, so I'm tempted to go ahead and change it, but if I can safely keep going and trust the meter, then I will. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I use the "meter" myself, but I know others feel it is "cheap" insurance to go with the recommended interval. I know this doesn't help much, so good luck!

We've had this debate a lot. The old cheap insurance argument. My view is simple, there has been study after study showing that there is no additional wear on an engine at 7500 miles between oil changes vs. 3000 miles between oil changes. Personally, I've been running synthetics about 15,000 miles between oil changes for the last year or two and haven't seen any problems ... well, problems from someone pulling out in front of me, but that's another story.

From what I understand, the computer monitors what type of driving you do (lots of short trips, or highway, etc.) and bases oil life on that data. If you travel a lot of dusty roads, that doesn't get factored into the computer, so you might not want to go all the way to 0% oil life, but otherwise the computer should be pretty close.

I change my oil every 2500-3000 miles. I don't think it would hurt to change it early, in fact I think it would be better for it.
