turn signal issue

3407 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  mayo
The clicker (sound) for the turn signal cycles on and off randomly. Everything is working fine (the turn signals, directionals, etc.) but we can't figure out this noise! Any advice?

2001 Chevy Suburban

Thanks.

does it cycle on and off when the turn signal is not activated, or does it just randomly stop clicking when the turn signal is activated ie, you're turning? IIRC, my Saturn ION's turn signal system is completley computer controlled, which means there's no flasher relay. So, to compensate for that so that you here a click, there's actually a "clicker" module somewhere under the dash to make the sound. If there's the case, it could be a problem with the computer, otherwise, I'm stumped...stray frayed wire hitting a pole of the flasher relay?
I had the same issue with my 96 Silverado (Coyote Custom).
I replaced the relay 2 times, had mechanics look at it, and we couldn't figure it out. It started out doing it on and off, but started to be a constant thing when driving. I finally had enough of it and sold the truck. Couldn't stand the constant ticking anymore.

I have the same issue.
the turn flasher relay will activate for no reason, just start clicking for no reason, randomly

but the turn signals, both directions & Hazards, all work when activated.

upon cancel (either automatically or manually centering the lights will stop, but the clicking continues
intermittantly, randomly, wantonly.......

replaced the flasher relay, and same situation with new one.

anyone have any other ideas,......ps would really hate the problem to be the multi-function sw.
but if thats the definitive culprit, than I'll have to bite the bullet.

thanks

multi-function switch would be my guess if you've looked at the rest of the circuit. I've never heard of a GM having the problem, but it sounds like what was happening when my F-150 work truck's went on the fritz (the wipers would turn on and off randomly as well).
