I got a 83 k10 with 350. Idk if it’s a 4 bolt main or 2 bolt main. But I was wondering if vortec heads with work with my engine. Will it improve hp, torque, and mpg? Will my stock intake fit on them? The head numbers is 14102193. Thank you

The heads will fit, but your stock intake won’t. So long as the heads are in good condition, making the jump to an Vortec compatible carb manifold is worth the spend. There are many here who can give you good direction as to which one to use.

The results will be very good across the board. The one thing to consider will be your cam for better torque. Again, guys here have done this.

If they are actual vortec heads, you can expect about a 20 hp and 20 lb/ft gain with the vortecs, and mileage should improve. You have to get a different intake manifold, cause the vortec heads take bolts that go straight down instead of at an angle like a 'normal' 350.

You do have to be careful about the cam you use, cause vortec heads can only take about .470 lift unless the valve guides are machined down some. Go to youtube and search for 'engine masters 24' and its pretty informative about the vortec heads.

If you are going to put a set of vortec heads on your truck, it is better to buy a set of after market heads, than a set from the salvage yard. The casting on a set of OE vortec heads , are thin, and are pron to cracking, also the studs in the OE heads are pressed into the head, so if you bump up the HP, these studs will pull out. The aftermarket heads, have screw in studs. Also valve size plays a big roll in how the engine will perform. OE valves are rather small. A head with an intake valve of 200 will give you a lot of bang for the buck. Also as mentioned, the clearance for the rocker arm, will limit how big of a cam you can run. The OE heads have limited clearence, and the after market heads will be ready for a larger cam. If you want to run a small cam, then of course you can run smaller valves. No mater what, vortec heads will improve the performance. Here is what Summit offers.
