Wanting to convert my 09 Silverado 1500 to Disc brakes, wondering what trucks in the plat from would cross over? just dont want to spend a fortune on a conversion kit.
don't do it . drums work good .better on the park brake power to hold truck .will cost $$$....
when you replace the brake shoes replace the drums @40-60K miles.. drums wear out quickly with the shoe material now used .
top of shoes worn bottom not much drums worn ..
What J Cat said... Don't do it. I converted my '96 Tahoe, it was an expensive pain and I lost my E brake. Drums work great, they're cheap to maintain and they're already there.
To do it correctly you will need to purchase the afore mentioned expensive conversion kit.
The other option is swapping a full axle and m/c.
I gotta ask though, what are you trying to gain.
Rear disc brakes give a perception of performance, but drums do a great job of stopping a vehicle, the $$ spent vs performance gained isn't a good trade.
J Cat and Aeroplane are right, it's expensive and drums work good, however if you're hell bent on doing it, Chevy Astrovans have disks all the way around and they swap over, there's a lot of step by steps online.
