Dear Gm Truck Club Community Members,

Over the past year, there have been updates to your community environment that have introduced challenges in usability and performance. We sincerely apologize if you have been negatively impacted. Efforts to improve the technology, user interface, and site performance has revealed weaknesses in the platform and outdated software on the site. Once we started looking at how to address these issues, it became clear that we needed to determine how to fix the underlying problems.

We needed to improve user experience, site speed, and overall performance, all while providing a secure environment for you to interact with your community. For the past few months, we have been actively seeking a resolution to these issues.

We are excited to announce that we are upgrading your site!! Our goal is to deliver an experience that better fits the current and growing long term needs of your community.

The upgraded platform is designed for efficiency, stability, and to be user-friendly across all devices, including mobile. More time can be spent engaging, sharing, and contributing to your favorite community no matter where you are!

This is just the first stage of the upgraded platform and we look forward to hearing your feedback as we make regular and timely improvements.

Thank you for all your support!

Dear Community Members,

We have posted previous messages announcing the upgrade platform coming to your community that will provide a better experience, faster page speed and work seamlessly across all devices, including mobile. We are excited to announce that Gmtruckclub.com will be migrated to our new platform on Thursday, October 31st. The site will be in maintenance mode and in read-only while the upgrade is happening. This is expected site behavior as we move all the archived content over to the new sites. There should be no change in the content within your profile. Your community may look a little different but all of the important information will still be there!

If for any reason there is a change of date, we will keep you updated on an alternative rollout schedule for the site upgrade. We look forward to your feedback on the new experience.

We appreciate your support!

Hmmm, a different topic; but I do have a MOD's attention.
I seem to have lost the blue edit button on my posts.

Any others having the same problem?

I really hope this 'new and improved" site format doesn't follow the trend of a few of the other sites I am a member of, because those changes really suck!! I love the format found here and over on GMT400.com Both are so much more user friendly than all the other new formats I am seeing rolling out on other forum sites. They seem to all be going to the same format. It's dumb. Why can't well enough just be left alone? And if it isn't like the other new ones, and it really is better, YAY!

Why only 24 hours? I'm an admin on another forum and we gave our users the ability to edit their own posts forever. The only thing they can't do is change the title after it has been made. It cut down on all the requests to edit posts for simple spelling mistake crap or to add to the original post... ect.

I have posts on here with incorrect info that I can't fix and would like to. there are also many broken links and missing linked pics that on here that the users can't change. They have even stated so inside the posts.

Now we do have excellent mods on here, theres no doubt about that. but their only human and I have no idea what the notification que looks like but I know what it can look like, especially if its filled with please edit these posts requests.

I would like to see us always be able to edit our own content, especially to keep the information accurately updated.

Thanks,

Al

Why only 24 hours?
We've found that most users will find spelling errors or other issues in their post within the first 12-24 hours, so 24 seemed natural. This allows you to quickly correct any typos or errors but does not open the thread up to misinformation or sneaky editing or deleting to alter or edit the tone/content of what you wrote. If an edit is urgent, a mod can usually hop in on it.

I understand that but that's not really true for everyone. For some of us, like me, our minds hear what we think we wrote and not what was actually wrote. I find it frustrating when I see something I wrote incorrectly and can't fix it. I have a broken links that I can't fix in the original post, while the right link is in the end, like a year after I posted the thread someone else corrected it.

Heres another user who want to be able to keep a very technical post about tuning trucks up to date in the original post, so I fear he may not and some of us really want this info here on GMTC so we dont have to seek it out on the other forums he is on. Heres the quote....

Looks like it's going to be hard to keep this up to date if I can't edit the post because I was still under 5... LOL. Might have to repost this thread again when I add new videos. And I'm also not happy with how the copy and paste went down either, would like to adjust that, but alas, I cannot.
Were only here to learn about, fix up, restore and keep our trucks trucking while helping others. I really dont believe anyone on here is trying to spread misinformation or do sneaky edits, I dont understand your point of view on this. I appreciate your response though.

Clarification....

I understand how to flag a post to have a mod edit it ect...

What I dont understand is your reasoning for the 24 hour period to edit.

Anyways taker easy!
