They do work good but they do take a bit to finesse them into postion. You should be able to hide the wiring in that Savanna pretty easy though.

I want one too.

I've been looking at them too. JC Whitney has a wireless unit. I'm going to have to check with a friend of mine. He has one on his Ford and uses it to aid in positioning trailer hitch/ball. He does a lot of trailering and says that it is a big help, especially at night.

I installed the Jc whitney one on my moms van for her, 80 bucks with tax CDN. a little trick when installing any system is if your having trouble hiding the wires for the camera, unscrew the plate, theres usually plastic pieces under there that you can just poke through.

We have them mounted on some of our trucks at work (GM 6500 35ft box trucks) I only use them when I'm at a busy loading dock, they come in especially handy when some idiot decides to unexpectedly walk behind you while your backing.
I think the picture quality depends on price spent, some have great pic quality and you can watch people behind you doing all kinds of things at stop lights or while driving down the road, others are blurry and have terrible quality. The night vision on all of them is terrible and only shows a vague outline.

Wireless unit at Walmart

I saw one working on Walmart display and it looked pretty good. Price was $98.00. Camera mounts to license plate holder and looks like the one shown is above post from JCW.

I'm driving a 2007 Yukon Denali for the next week and it's got a back-up camera built-in as an option. It's great, when used with the Park Assist feature it's really going to provide another level of safety ... not to mention less dings.

I had a infared sensor mounted on the licence plate - Handy for hitting tow ball for line -up, but rotted out in 1 winter. How long will a camera in a new england winter last?

Does the camera only work when you are in reverse, or can you use it as an alternate to the rear view mirror?

Wow, that's great! Being an aftermarket unit, I'd guess that you can hook it up howeever you want, but you're probably not supposed to use it like a rear-view camera...:glasses:

10 to 1, that Kenwood unit he has only displays it when you throw it in reverse. However, you could get another small LCD to stick in he truck for the rearview. I saw one vehicle that the rear view mirror was completley replaced by a LCD in the same position and a rear view camera.

No, it works on my video input. I guess I could of wired it into my reverse lights to have it come on in reverse, but I like it this way. I just plugged it into my video input, then renamed it rear view cam. All I have to do is select r/c by pressing the src button.

I have one and mine works as a rear view camera 100% of the time. I can't find any pictures right now, but I will gladly post them of both the screen and the install. I actually removed my rear wiper on the suburban and mounted the camera in the hole.
