We repaired our loose steering column on my 1991 Silverado today. This involved removing steering wheel and tilt mechanism and tightening the 4 base screws. We got it all put back together and every works. However I found this part on the floor once we got it all together. We pulled it back apart and still can’t find where it goes.
does anyone have any ideas?

This is just a wild guess so take it for what it's worth. Since it's obviously a spring with some radius to it I'm wondering if it's part of the ignition switch specifically to engage the detents between ACC, LOCK, ON, and START. With the key in the switch does it move smoothly between all positions or can you feel the detents? If you can feel the detents my guess was just probably pie in the sky.
looks up the electrical pin of that ignition switch area ,,,,,...
Thanks we’ll look at the switch in the morning. I’ll let y’all know what I find. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. We pulled the switch barrel and still cannot find a place for this part. Good news is everything works fine but I’m holding onto this part in case I find where it goes.
