Good afternoon to all and to those that commented about types of engine oil thank you. Today I have a mystery wiper, wiper fluid, and cruise control problem.

Wipers, they seem to have a mind of their own and you never know if they will work as they should or do their own thing. At times they work correct and then there are times they do their own thing, like going full speed when you set intermittent and when you turn them off they keep going. I have even had to stop and turn the engine off to get the wipers to turn off.

Wiper Fluid, it's full but does not work.

Cruise Control, does not work.

Now my question is since they all three work from the same arm on the steering wheel could this be the issue, would the arm be bad and needing replaced. I have checked fuses and they are still good, so I'm thinking it may be the arm.

I own a 98 Suburban K1500 that I just bought back in Nov and now with the new year on us I plan on doing some needed work on her. She has 161,000 and time has been good to her, just a few minor issue as the ones listed above.

I would like to tackle the wiper issue first so I can get up to the mountains before the snow melts. So if anyone has had this issue or knows something about it please share. I'm not a mechanic but can follow directions and sometimes use YouTube to see how others do repairs.

Thanks,
Jerry

Just my thoughts only on the wiper fluid. Do you hear it pumping . If yes that's good. Next look for a leak. On my 2003 over the years the hood bracket rubbed and cut the line, but the line was a little hidden. If can't hear motor I would focus on the wiper as discussed above since these fluid motors do last a long time.

Thanks for the input and I plan on getting under the hood this weekend to see if I can hear the pump running on the wiper fluid motor. I have shopped for a new arm and the price is fair, it's the labor I'm not looking forward to. You would think replacing one might take awhile but not a total tear down and rebuilt of the steering and dash area. Anyway that will be a fun weekend when I start that project and it may be soon, from what I can find on google it seems the arm may be the problem.

Thanks,
Jerry

There was a recall on the wiper motor cover for that body style. My 95's was replaced under the recall. But if everything is acting crazy it could be the multifunction switch or wiring issues in the column. Guys that move the tilt wheel up everyte they get out and back down when they get in seem to develope issues with broken wires in the column after many years of use

I agree Pikey, I to think it's in the switch and plan on replacing the arm. I will be picking up a full dash on the 3rd and it's all included, vents, switches, light unit, ac unit, instrument panel, and all parts of the dash. I will be pulling but the good thing is someone has taken the seats and console out so there will be ton's of room to work. I am hoping the arm and multi switch work, I got the dash for the dash and all the other parts will be nice to have.

Have you checked the circuit board for the wipers? It's like a $25 part and easy to get to on the firewall near the brake booster. My wipers did the same thing yours did a while back and the cruise quit working as well. I changed the circuit board out and the wipers work great. Haven't looked into the cruise yet, but mine would engage, then cut off itself after a couple miles. It would work again after a bit, but cut off. Eventually it stopped all together. To me, that ruled out the multifunction switch in the column.

Thanks Bone Head and I will check into that just have not had time to work on her lately but hope to soon, the wipers are working right now with no problem except for the washer. Funny thing about the cruise control is it will not set but there are times I feel like it slows me down when going down grades, you know that feeling you get with the control on when going down a hill. That makes me think there is issues in the multi switch.
Thanks,
Jerry

Mine is doing the same thing on my 1983 Suburban. Wipers work, the washer will spurt spontaneously occasionally (so motor works) wipers go by themselves when turned off, etc. Crazy. Wondering if it's the dash mounted switch (with intermittent control) or something under the dash. I really don't know what to look for.

I also have issue with the cruise control which leads me to think it's the multi function switch. I plan on checking all areas before taking on the multi switch for it's a bear to get to. There have been some great ideas giving and I plan on using them all.

I remember this, In my 95 my wipers would sporadically go on/off wouldnt come on at times. I replaced mine JUST BEFORE the recall. luckily I had a buddy make me out a receipt to hand in to GM for re-imbursement. I think I got $75 for labor and $129 for parts.
