Found on the internet Technical Service Information #21-NA-199 that talks about this new valve that will open at 158 degrees, instead of 194 degrees for the stock valve. This applies to vehicles from 2014-2020. I have a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500, Crew Cab, 4WD, 5.3L. When I am pulling an RV trailer, my transmission temperature is usually 194 degrees. I would like to install the new lower temp valve, but I am not sure if the new valve will work with my existing setup. My existing valve has the cooler lines that are attached with the clips, I think the new valve (86774933) is designed where the cooler lines are attached with a single plate. So I am wondering if I buy the new valve, could I then disassemble my old valve and install the new valve's inner parts to that old valve? I have called a dealership, and they said that my vehicle is not covered by this TSI.

You have to change the two push in clip type cooler lines to the new style with a plate and single bolt to be able to use the new thermal bypass valve.

Or buy the new low temp valve and disassemble the internals and hope they are the same as the old style.

Go for it.
Your 6L80e will be a lot cooler and will last longer.
