Re: 1999 S10 4.3

I have no fluid to the rear brakes, and my brake light is on. I believe I need to push in this plunger (see photo) on the proportioning valve? As you can see, it's up tight against the braker booster, so I'm not going to be able to get a screwdriver anywhere close.

I suppose my best option is to remove the ABS assembly so I have access to push in the plunger? Any idea how much force may be expected to move it back?

Thanks,
Scott

Did you have a leak to the rear before this?
Yes, I'm performing a rear disk swap. So the rear lines were completely disconnected.

Have you tried cracking the line to the fronts on the master, then have someone push the pedal slowly down hoping for that click to recenter it?
I have tried pumping the brakes with 4 different lines cracked, nothing moved the plunger. I wasn't exactly sure which line to crack. The M/C line on the opposite or same side as the plunger? Or the outgoing lines to the brakes, and on the opposite or same side as the plunger?

Thanks,
Scott

Nope. I attempted front/rear (separately) on the M/C side and front/rear (separately) on the Brakes side, with and without engine running. The plunger has not moved.

I'm starting to think I need to see what it takes to remove the whole unit so I can push the plunger with a screwdriver.

I'm wondering if the process isn't working because my rear lines don't have any fluid. Maybe cracking the front lines doesn't give it enough pressure drop since the rear lines are full of air? I'm thinking about trying to figure out how to fill up my rear lines with brake fluid so I can try the process again.

Thanks,
Scott

If you have access to a Motive type pressure bleeder you could fill the lines by reverse bleeding. Connect the pressure bleeder to the caliper and crack the line at the MC. If you don't have a Motive they're easy to build. Watch YouTube videos for make a pressure brake bleeder and reverse bleed brakes.

I ordered a Motive pressure bleeding kit today.

I also heard the suggestion to plug the rear line port on the PV, crack the front line and attempt to move the plunger that way. I don't have a plug immediately available, but it's another idea I heard.
