General Rust Removal Question

Do any of you highly knowledgeable Chevy Truckers have any advice for removing rust from under the body of the car? I am a newb but have just bought a 2000 Silverado, there has already been such an amazing response from you guys, I am so glad I joined, I would have been driving around in 4 wheel drive dragging the rear wheel around thinking I had a problem.
The body work (paint) on this truck is immaculate pretty much. I just paid to have the rockers rewelded and sprayed as I plan to keep it for a long time and it was needed for my safety certificate anyway, I bought por-15 for the underneath that I have ordered from Amazon with some gift vouchers I had, I have heard that is the best. Is there a fool proof way of protecting the rockers as I have recently found out they are renowned for rotting in this area, they are currently like new and I would like to treat them some how to protect them as good as possible. It's a long story and you may have read my posts before, I am currently broke and long story short, this truck has to last me a vey long time, so I am trying my hardest to learn what to do as I can keep her going for as long as possible. I'd really appreciate any advice for removing large areas of rust from the chassis and also the best way to protect the rockers from re-rusting. Thanks so much from the 'Useless Limey in a Truck'.

Found it. Seems you bought the same stuff Tachyon used.

Por 15 will protect your panels from under neath. I have used Osoho rust inhibitor for years. It will chemicelly convert the rust, but you will need to remove as much rust as you can first. If the rust is not scale rust, then you may be able to just spray the ospho on the area, but, ospho is an acid, so you will need to avoid breathing the mist in. It is a little stronger than battery acid, but is made to remove rust.
