No left or right turn allowed

I have a 2002 Duramax with an Edge w/ Attitude. Recently, and not all the time, when I indicate a turn using the signal indicator, my truck will die. I have replaced the turn signal stalk and thought it was resolved....jokes on me. This is a little scary when pulling my boat on the highway and I want to pass another car or truck. I have now become that guy that I hate that doesn't use his signals. Someone have any other ideas?

Stick a temporary wire from the engine block to the battery neg, then start it and try the signals.
If every thing works, the block ground strap is bad,

If the above makes no difference, try the strap from a fender to the battery neg

OK, thanks for the private post, but all conversations should be here if you want this fixed.

No, I didn't say it was a short, I'm suggesting that you may have a bad ground and that the current drain of the signal lights is enough that there isn't capacity for the engine to keep running.

And, you have given every one the impression that it happens most times when you use the signals (that's the way I read the opening post)
But, in the pm you tell me it's only 1 in 5, or 6, times you use the signals.

I still feel there is a ground issue, just not sure yet where it would be, that's why I would start at the block.

2 batteries and I think 7 computers. That's a confusing network to troubleshoot. I would be going after a ground problem too.

I had a similar problem except it was every time I hit the brakes it would die. Turned out to be a bad ground strap that went from the firewall to the frame. I replaced all the ground straps. So My vote is one more for a bad ground strap somewhere.

Just to add a little explanation to the weak ground idea, I suspect, like most diesels, the engine stops when the fuel shuts off. All that lets the fuel flow is a solenoid, when power is removed from the solenoid, it releases, stopping fuel flow.
To keep the solenoid operated, you need a healthy 12volts and a good clean ground return.

With all vehicle electrical problems (gremlins and the like) first things;

1) Check (all) Battery connections both hot and return
2) check all grounds. repeat ALL grounds.

I have found all kinds of weird problems solved by #1

Your issue here sounds like a grounding problem (#2). Probably a loose screw or screw not run down all the way and the the ground connection is not tight.
