In the last year I have been focusing the build of my truck on inexpensive, diy mods. Now I am considering taking off the AC, which does not perform very well, and putting on a shorter belt. I have heard this will ad power, but I do not know. Any thoughts or suggestions? It would also help my intake build a bit. It I do it I will post pictures within the next three weeks, but I am uncertain. thanks!

If you're not using the A/C, it doesn't consume any power from the motor. That's what the a/c clutch is for. Additionally, what little power the a/c does consume when it's on isn't going to even equal a whole horsepower.
If it's not engaged the A/C takes very little power from the engine, yes it will make a slight drag just by being there but hardly enough to measure.
Instead of removing the A/C unit just leave it in place and get the shorter belt, makes it a lot easier to place it back in working condition when you change your mind about A/C in the summer and you dont have to worry about loosing the Freon charge or getting contamination in the system.
Have you though about underdrive pulleys to regain some of that horsepower? They arent real expensive and can make a noticeable improvement.

Ok, that helps a lot. One question though, I live in Utah, would it be really hard on my engine to have the underdrive pulleys on it in the winter? Just had a light snow this weekend, ton of fun doing donuts and drifting! :lol:
