Wanted to say thanks in advance for any help. I have a 1997 K1500 Silverado Z71 that I've been daily driving since 00'. Been a hell of a truck. Well I've run i to an issue of the speedometer reading alot faster than actual speed. Needle reads 0 when sitting still. Needle is smooth when accelerating, no jumping at all. It simply is reading fast. I changed the VSS thinking that was the issue but that did not change anything. I have ran a obd2 scanner on it while driving and the scanner reads correct gps speed.Truck does have 33's on it but that has not changed since 02'. Everything else is stock. I have learned to deal with it but my boy has gotten his license an wants to start driving it so I was gonna try an get it right. Thank you again for any help.

Thanks for the fast response, I have read of guys replacing these and still having the same issue. I read something about a vss buffer? Any idea what that is. Seems like I'm not by myself with this issue. Needle moves as smooth as can be, just reads faster. The video really helped with understanding how to change motors if I have to. Thanks.

My truck is a 1988, which I've owned for 24 years(it was my first vehicle), and I have had to replace the fuel and temp gauges due to stepper motor issues. My speedometer reads 5mph slower all across the spectrum, but I believe that is because I have larger tires than what it came with from the factory. I learned that when I got busted for speeding in a work zone lol. I don't have experience with the later dashes. I will do some internet sleuthing for you. I'm always curious of how these things work.

Thinking further about it, is it always the same amount faster than the PCM sees? If so, just pop off the needle and put it back on that much faster. You will probably have to put it up on jack stands and run it up to a speed that you can see the difference, set cruise control, then move it.

Normal disclaimers apply - BE CAREFUL. YMMV
