Hey Everyone,
I have a question about the distributor and Setting the timing on my truck. I have a 96 Silverado K1500 5.7L and am in the process on replacing the intake manifold gasket on the motor. It looks like it's necessary to remove the distributor in order to get the intake manifold off. I know that I need to set the distributor to TDC 0 degrees on a compression stroke for the #1 cylinder before removing the distributor from the truck. I was going to make marks on the distributor and motor relative to how it was positioned prior to removal.
My question is, once I remove and drop the distributor back in, is the crankshaft relearn procedure going to have to happen no matter what once the distributor is pulled - even with TDC at 0 degrees? And if so does this year truck use a OBDII scanner function or a timing light scan tool to set timing; I've heard conflicting reports. Thanks
