Is there a way to adjust the speed of the tailgate when lowering it? It used to lower much slower. I have a 2016 Silverado.

I've never looked at the mech; but I suspect you have a piston that's leaking.
Like the lift shock/piston used on SUVs I suspect they leak after awhile
The SUVs have two, your truck probably does as well. If it still has some drop resistance, you probably have 2 and need one.

I think you're looking at a loose torque rod (caused by vibration or related component failure) or a weak torque rod.
Edit: I did find this if there is an aftermarket install on your vehicle. This has pistons.

Jacob, the 2014 and up trucks have an Easy Lift and Lower option, I knew it existed but didn't know how it worked.........so, I dug into it
Your right, it does have torsion bars; but it also uses a hinge dampener. I found a YouTube vid that shows how to repair.
