I tap the peddle, lift my foot and smash the peddle and it seems to get overwritten

 

your truck is the AFM ....you put the AFM shutdown in the dash connector module ..

J cat, AFM isn't his problem, it's torque control.
From a dead start and a heavy right foot, GM pulls the power out of the engine.
No broken transmissions and no busted rear axles.
To get rid of it, you need a tune

"Abuse Mode is part of the transmission Torque Management. It operates from 0-1600 rpm in first gear only. If you stomp the gas from a dead stop or from a very slow speed, the Abuse Mode program reduces engine horsepower to prevent any possible damage to the transmission.

 

Unfortunately, I'm not trying to accelerate that aggressively, just taking off normally from a stopsign. I have to feather-touch the pedal to go without hesitation. It's clearly a misfire, but it just happens when I first touch the gas pedal from a full stop or slow roll. If it were a carbureted engine I would think accelerator pump but with TBI I'm puzzled.

Fuel pressure or filter restricting the fuel line from compensating for the sudden rush of fuel.

 

Might be carboned up throttle body that's sticking.

2008 Silverado 5.3 I'm annoyed with the hesitation when I try to accelerate quickly. No problem most of the time, and if I accelerate slowly, it runs perfectly, smooth as silk. It's just from an idle, typically at a stop light. No codes, Most likely one of two things not enough air (air filter) or not enough fuel. Dirty gas filter or dirty injectors.

 

I noticed this same behavior shortly before my throttle position sensor croaked.

 

Lately I've been wondering about the throttle position sensor.
The TPS doesn't seem to be terribly expensive so I might just throw one in to see what it does. That seems like an inexpensive diagnostic tool

 

It should be one of two things
1 dirty air filter
2 dirty fuel filter or injectors.
Did it start slow maybe when it cooled off outside.

 

I had an older 80's truck do that and it was a MAP sensor. Not sure if you have one on a 2008.
I couldn't pull into my garage with out it misfiring

Perhaps I'm naive, but if it were fuel pressure I would think that it would run badly at Freeway speed or when accelerating, but it's just when I first touch the accelerator pedal, then it clears up and runs perfectly.

 

Did you ever figure out the problem my 08 is doing the exact same thing...

 

Not yet, I'm still having the problem.
I've tried some Sea Foam in the tank and I THINK it's improving slightly every time I drive it but I'm not certain. It still hesitates but perhaps not as bad. I hate to think I could be guilty of "placebo effect", but I suppose that's possible.

 

Replace the gas pedal. That's the cause..

 

TODAYS all the gas pedal electric's did the china parts ..

 

@k5bgg1229 , good suggestion; but not without test it, the gas pedal is easy to test.
I never change anything without testing it.

Your problem could also be a dirty throttle body

 

there may be a loose nut behind the wheel.

 

My Express did that for a while before the TPS on the throttle body went bad.
