I've seen that done on drag cars and mud trucks, but for a daily truck... whoa. Looks like they needed more welder than they had as well.

Looks like 1500 Suburban/Tahoe GT4 G80 units are fairly plentiful on ebay, but 1500 Silverado/Sierra units around that year, not so much.

what years are compatible withthe 2000 silverado? I understand 1999 - 2004 will work, 2005 had drum brakes - so not a drop in - what about newer rears, will a 2006 drop in?

If its not a g80 then its an open carrier. Open carriers do not have springs. They have a set of spider gears inside. So only ones side ( usually the passengers side) will be the wheel that drives the vehicle. I am almost sure that a GT4 is 342 gears, and an open carrier. I just rebuilt my rear end in my 97 silverado. I replaced the carrier with an Eaton truetrac, and the 342 gears with 373 gears. So now in slippery conditions both wheels will pull the truck, but this ingauges only as needed. The first 2 pics, are of the truerrac, the last pic, is the original open carrier with the spider gears. If you zoom in, its easy to see the spider gears. Everything in my rearend is new now.

kenny , my gt4 has 3.73 gears in it from the factory , i also went with the truetrac diff
GT4 may be the open carrier. Its hard for me to remember in my old age LOL. How long ago did you do the truetrac swap?. All I heard before I did mine was good things about it. Yesterday a guy posted on our car show FB page that He has blowen up 2 truetracs, and is looking for a better replacement. IDK what its in, but looks to be a GM 10 bolt. I hope to see Him at one of the car shows soon, so I dont make the same mistakes He did to kill the truetrac. About the only thing I can think of is to much power around a 90° corners, IDK. I thought they were bullet proof.

i did mine in 2018 , the gears in my old diff were so sharp and worn the would lock up and break two transfer cases one transmission adapter, and one bell housing , and one driveline, i was in alabama at the time 1700 miles from home, since putting it in , i have had no problems with it.
i watched a video on the different types of differentials , and it looked to me the best option

Yea, I thought its the best option before I installed it too. For me, my truck is more of a street simi hot rod. So yea, I drive it hard, but it never sees mud, or off road. Everyone I have talked to ( before I bought one) says the truetrac is the way to go. Thanks for the reply.

I habe two gt4 axles but the gears look dicrent in zide how do i tell witch type it is one has springs and one dont
