The steering wheel stays in any position while driving. Even changing lanes, I need to force the wheel back to center. I can go around a corner, and let go of the wheel, and it will stay in position.

Dealer will not warranty due to my one and three-quarter inch leveling kit and 32 inch tires up front.

Update. Steering is now locked at full left turn. When you try and move the wheel, it does a beeping sound, and forces wheel against your turning direction. Power steering error message now displayed.

looks like you have this GM screw up Electric Power Steering (EPS) loss of power Recall N172085440 ... this is why I NO longer will buy the NEW GM vehicles ..this have been going on since 2014 .. can be program of PCM or the electric motor steering assist .. another chinesium motor part ..owners did get into accidents as the assist power motor craps out then cannot move steering wheel ..

go to NHTSA and put your vin # in .. see if your truck is on that list .. if so I would go back to service manager and not tell him exactly what you found .. then tell him to see if your truck has a recall on steering failures ..

Just received a call from the dealership.
My vin has no recalls, and I am 4k miles out of warranty.
New power steering rack needed. Over 1600 bucks. Fml.
save your receipts and dealership repair documents.. could be a year from now this will effect your truck and then you will be compensated for your loss.. even if you dumped it , for another truck..

I complained about my park brakes wearing out @15K miles .. never use park brakes automatic well after a few years so many owners filed a class action lawsuit .. I did not pay any amount since it was only 1 year old .. they just checked it out .. said yes parking brakes do wear .. I said that is B/S.. what I found was the park shoes were flopping around , not properly designed , so the hold down clip was not proper..I actually fabricated a clip and the clip I designed is still there 17 yrs old.. I did replace those park brake shoes but dealership did not ..

most likely the rack motor is dead ..racks usually fail because of leaks and slop ...I would replace the motor

or
The defect: corrosion of the connector between the electric power steering module and the torque sensor connector may cause a loss of electric power steering assist.

Thank you.
The dealership only replaces the entire rack/motor assembly. They also said GM may cover some cost. So I'm looking at about 800 -900 bucks.

Mechanically I could do it, but then electronic calibration would be needed, and I just don't have the time.

And of course the parts are backordered for a week.

yes these GM "" new"" have these electronic modules require specific programing including the fuel pump control module..
since the parts are not available looks like a major GM screw up..

same things also happened with the DODGE .. recall fix took a few months [parts] due to the major failures .. alternator and water pump ..

Update. Dealership finished my truck.
Somehow they were able to get GM to cover half the cost of labor and parts under a warranty claim.
Complete steering rack/gear/motor replaced.
785 out of pocket. Drove great on the way home.

Now it's time to somehow sell this pile.
