I have a 2012 Ram 1500 Express. I am going to purchase a cold air intake kit soon. I had Airaid on my 2003 Hemi and I really liked it. I am looking at the Airaid, K&N, S&B and BBK. I was just wondering what your opinions on these or others that might be best. I am not looking for all out performance. I just want better filtering, increase in mpg's, under hood style, fit & finish, and ease of install!!

I heard that you have to remove the front fender liner in order to install the S&B system...is that true? Thank you for all your opinions.

family member has a 2013 dodge challenger 5.7L engine and a diablo tuner .. the cold air intake he installed did require some changes but not that much .. also the crank case vent hole had to be opened .. so this was not much gain on power and no increase in MPG. also do not use these in snow/cold weather they do get messed up.

Do cold air intakes make a difference?

Cold air makes a difference, but these trucks already have a cold air intake, as Ray mentioned. Most cold air kits, include a high flow air filter. So at wide open throttle, there is some air flow improvement, although this is at WOT, and it is a small difference. This is concidering that the air filters are clean. If you want to improve your performance at WOT, then replace the air filter with a high flow filter, like K&N or a compatible filter. Truth is, a lot of these kits, do away with the original air box and replace it with an aluminum air box that is open on the top. This allows the hot air from the engine compartment to be drawn into the intake. The original double wall plastic air box is sealed all the way around, and does a lot better job to keep out engine compartment heat. Also the OE air box capacity is designed to flow about 1&1/2 times the air volume that the engine can pull into it. SO there is no shortage of air flow.

new vehicles in a hot air climate these cold air intakes a little more air when you put the pedal to the floor. its a waste of $$$.. old trucks, old then these cold air intakes work good.. old trucks have air suck in under the hood so in hot temps engine has a little more power..
I towed my 20 foot boat 4K lbs on my 1983 GM sedan. I had a problem towing it on hills power ,, was not good. then I fabricated a dual air intake on the metal air box.. then put flex pipes in front of the radiator ..
two 4inch pipes two ports on the metal air cleaner ..had no problems towing on hills had more power .
the OEM GM metal air . box had a 3inch port so it caused restrictions .. I had to return to the OEM setup because when the air temps dropped it caused engine hesitation ..
IN 1967 olds 442 had a dual air intake , so I did this the same on my 83 GM sedan ..I purchased the 442 in july 1967..
