What is worst, a v6 in a corvette or a 4 banger in a Silverado?

That is one bad a$$ 2.7 liter, 310 hp. Holy Belinda.
Not for me though, I want a V-8, and if a V-8 should become unavailable in future W/Ts I WILL NOT buy one.

As for the V-6 in Corvettes....why not. 1/2 of Corvettes are owned by old men that drive like grandma. There should be a V-6 automatic with brown paint and tan interior. they could cal it StingRay OME (old man Edition).

Wow. I'm real interested to see that 4 cylinder silverado, but I doubt I could bring myself to buy one. I bet it will take huge insentives to get people to buy them, at least at first.

In a short box std cab work truck that hauls a tool bag and small parts it might be ok, or possibly for a soccer mom with a cc that wants a truck and thinks hauling garden supplies or groceries is really loading up her truck.
Most buyers that plan to tow anything, or load the bed with any kind of real weight will opt for the v8 I believe.
Although I've seen a lot of the new body style trucks with the 4.3 and the owners have lowered them or customized them. They want the looks and aren't worried about feeding 2 extra cylinders.

I drive my Corvette like an old man 98% of the time I’m behind the wheel. The other 2% of the time, though...... well, never mind about that.

Otoh; many a younger man than I has been surprised to find a certain GMC truck grille filling up his Corvette’s (or Porsche’s or BMW’s) rear view mirror 2/3’s of the way through a highway ramp...

IMO the majority of the younger generation has never even driven a v8, and don't know what they're missing. They have no experience to compare the differences. When we say there is no replacement for displacement, we get blank stares or ridicule from the younger folks , but we know the truth. A 496, 454, 350, 5.3, 5.0 - they are all smile a joy inspiring v8s that get the job done. I've driven the I 4 turbos and they have there place, but not in trucks. And if I'm loading 1500 lbs of landscaping material or people and equipment for camping, I prefer the smooth confidence inspiring pur and effortless torque of a V8.

In all probability the V-8 will eventually become a thing of the past.

As the government tightens up the CAFE standards, manufacturers need to find more ways to meet them. Right now cutting weight is a major factor hence why body panels on some cars feel like fiberglass covered cardboard.

If they can get the same power of a V8 out of a 4-banger they will go that route even if it means sacrificing the history of the V8 and its desirability by enthusiasts. This has already begun. The current 4.3L V6 offered in the Silverado has the same horsepower as the 4.8L V8 GM used to offer. With the lighter weight of the V6 coupled with the current 6-speed transmission, mileage is improved.

It all comes down to profits.

Ford recently announced it is cutting most of its cars in North America. By 2020, almost 90 percent of its manufacturing in North America will be pickups, SUVs and commercial vehicles. The rest will be Mustangs and Focus Active crossover which debuts in 2019.

I would not be surprised if GM did something similar.

As much as I love the feeling and comfort of my 454 in Sanity, when I line up nose to nose in my '17 Dodge Charger with the 300hp V6, and my Uncle in his '69 Dodge Charger with the 5.9, I can smoke him off the line, 0-60, 1/4 mile, and 0-100! I don't think the V8 will ever go away, but I do think it will become less desirable to the manufacturer to build beyond special applications, like the Hellcat, or the Vette. With the production of the smaller and almost as powerful diesels, I do think the V8 trucks will disappear. If you want a hard workin' truck, it'll have to be a 1 ton or bigger with the only options being diesel, and $80K.

Well with 0% financing for 500 months and a low low payment of $500, they will keep selling millions of extremely over priced trucks. Just like the stupid $300 tickets to a football game. If we all keep being dumb enough to buy these high prices, why shouldn't they keep selling them? I say all this while I sit comfortably in my Italian leather cooled seat in my brand new over priced Charger. But it is such a nice ride!!
